Finding out that Ubiquiti supplies the russian military with communications gear and helps them wage an illegal war fills me with absolute disgust. I have been using their equipment for the past six years but now I'm filled with desire to burn it all down.

I've been warning people away from that vendor since (checks notes): 2010 when due to others' recommendations, I bought some in an effort to attempt to use it with Syzygryd.

Alas, having used better WiFi options from other vendors, for probably a decade at that point, I was dumbfounded by how awful it was; and shared my experiences within what limited circles I had.

Lamentably, circa 2014, I was again confronted with a bunch of their BS gear and was entirely unsuccessful with getting it to function with Freifunk (a free mesh WiFi network in Berlin), even with other savvy hackers helping me.

I've continued to warn folks about them; but on technical merits (or lack thereof). That they provide gear to Russian warmongers, I guess doesn't surprise me insomuch as they seem to have an amazing marketing team that makes it so that I seemingly can't escape encountering them no matter where I turn.
@osma The more laissez-faire your capitalism gets, the more acceptable it becomes to sell critical equipment to war criminals. (And genociders)
@osma much harder to control commodity equipment over more regulated goods, but it looks like absolutely nobody involved in this chain even attempts to gives a shit.
@osma @spiezmaestro wow I did not knew about this. Ubiquiti user here as well. Any alternatives anyone can recommend?
@space_flounder @osma @spiezmaestro nice, the RB5009UPr+S+IN sounds like a good option to replace my UDM
@space_flounder @joaovitoriasilva @osma thx, I'm going to keep them in mind for my wifi mesh replacement probably this year.
@osma awww fuuuuck. Their gear is so good… dammit.
@osma
I’m not sure I’d believe a “news outlet and investment firm” that specializes in short-selling.
@osma or rather burn down the distributors?
Any vendor who maintains distribution relationships with sponsors of war are themselves equally guilty of the same.
@harald
@osma I stopped using Ubiquiti when they discontinued the Unifi Video app for no good reason other than forcing people to buy more hardware. And by discontinued, I mean scrubbed the app from their website so it wasn’t possible to download it.
