Instagram released an update with data collection. Simply put, pay £7 a month and go ad free or continue with ads but consent to them collecting data. Despite everyone’s views on data collecting I’ve always felt uncomfortable with the idea of any company doing it discreetly. I know they’ll do it anyway but it still didn’t sit right giving them that consent. It’s a bit annoying because I was building a page and had a lot of memories on Instagram but oh well, the time has come.
@MattC oh, they were asking 7 pound?
When it popped up for me it was £4pound

@MattC

If you pay the fee but interact with someone who doesn't, will your interaction get tracked through their account? 😖

It took a full year to persuade people I interacted with most to install Signal. None of them have come to Mastodon/Fediverse, though.

But I don't regret quitting.

@plor I can definitely believe this. Not long ago I was on Instagram and someone my work colleague is seeing came up on my suggested.

Keep in mind, we don’t have eachother on any social media. We’ve never text eachother about anything other than anime and work related things. How is this person showing on my suggested.

It just creeped me out and made me realise how invasive these apps can be
