#OTD in 1922 American journalist Nellie Bly died.

She "was widely known for her record-breaking trip around the world in 72 days in emulation of Jules Verne's fictional character Phileas Fogg, and for an exposé in which she worked undercover to report on a mental institution from within."

A few years ago I read an excellent book on her trip around the world - "Eighty Days: Nellie Bly and Elizabeth Bisland's History-Making Race Around the World" by Matthew Goodman. I'd recommend it.
