Do you have a favorite blurring app for iOS or Mac OS? I'd like to post more of my art, but much of it lives in art journals with personal journaling. I'd like an easy way to blur the often very-irregularly-shaped sections of text.

I'm using Skitch here, it seems to have worked okay but it bulked it up to a 20 MB png, yowza. Are there better options?

@hollie No recommendation for a specific tool, but I recommend simply blanking the area in whichever program lets you do that best. Compresses better, but more importantly, you'd be surprised how well text can be deblurred using modern tools.
@Coffee Yeah I think next time I do this I will literally cover the text with paper. It seems so obvious right now but an hour ago it just didn't occur to me.
@hollie I know that‘s not the answer to your question but: I love your piece of journal-art - it’s really beautiful 💜
@stuff Oh thank you! :) 💜

@hollie

Downloaded that picture via my Mastodon client to a png file of 6.3MB. Did not see a 20MB file at all.

Then sent it to myself ("Note to myself") in Signal, getting any identifying image metadata stripped and a better compression rate.

Then downloaded/saved it out of the Signal app and now it's a 1.3MB png file in my phone's image gallery.

Would these few extra steps be an option for you before tooting?

@rhymer Oh thanks! I just opened it in Preview and lowered the resolution, and I think that'd be easier in the end than a Signal process? But I think after all this my decision is to just start covering the text with paper so it isn't even in the photo.

@hollie paper is such a good idea, but if you did want to try an app I don’t think has been suggested in the comments then I use “Pixeldrop” for iOS. You can install it on macOS as well if you select the iOS apps bit of the App Store.
