There is something particularly obscene about watching Americans literally fighting and dying in the streets of Minneapolis to protect their immigrant neighbors from a fascist pogrom and choosing to focus on “gun violence” as an abstract issue to solve by disarming those same Americans.

@HeavenlyPossum
I suspect they have to concentrate on THAT aspect because it's a lot less uncomfortable than facing the realization that they're just a handful of bad political choices from a similar mess.

"We made the guns illegal, so it'll be fine," is their equivalent to, "We'll vote them out in the midterms, it'll be fine."

@TheGreatLlama @HeavenlyPossum 100%. It’s just a comfort blanket embroidered with “That could never happen here.”

Those blankets are awful cozy. I don't really blame them for doing what we've been doing for 80 years.
@TheGreatLlama @paddyduke @HeavenlyPossum just read this book, very pertinent to this subject. In short: non-violence good as mass movement idea, not to preclude violence as self defense or defense of others, without the possibility of violence as defense it is hard to move forward given violence is present in the world.
