Great read: a plea to app developers in favor of UI customization in software, using Quiche Browser as an example 🌞

• Why customization doesn’t necessarily add more complexity.
• Why it’s not an excuse for not providing good, familiar defaults.
• Why it matters even more since iOS 26 and Liquid Glass.

Thanks a ton Erlend! Funny I found your article accidentally just after re-reading the wonderful feedback report you sent me 2 years ago 🫶🤍🩶🖤

@quicheindustries For me I dread having to reconfig Quiche from scratch every time I reinstall the browser. Could iCloud sync be supported in the near future?

@rungxanh1995

At some point the app will sync tabs, favorites, and history.

However, syncing settings wouldn't work well between an iPhone and an iPad, as user preferences and toolbar layouts won't match.

I have a bunch of improvements planned to make toolbar setup much easier and faster. Also, if I manage to find a way to share toolbar setups between people, this could also used as some kind of backup.

Quiche Browser settings are included in iCloud backups, so they should be restorable.

More generally, if people purposely delete then reinstall an app on their phone, I believe they would expect to start from a clean slate, especially if the app has evolved with new defaults in the meantime.
