Formatting? In Notepad?!

It's time for revolution, comrades. Eat the rich text!
I'm not actually as mad about this as a lot of people are. At a glance, it seems like all they are doing is allowing Notepad to render Markdown files as styled text. If you apply formatting and try to save it as a .txt, you're prompted to either save it as a .md or lose the formatting.

And formatted text pasted in still shows up un-styled, so one of the most popular uses of Notepad I know of—using it as a formatting sink, dumping the clipboard on it to strip formatting—still works.

@maxleibman *paste* GDamnit!
Ctrl-Shift-V? Not supported here. Fine!
Win-R notepad
Ctrl-V, Ctrl-A, Ctrl-C, Alt-F4, Alt-Tab, Ctrl-V

I mean uhh I have no idea what you mean by a formatting sink.

@maxleibman I had no idea there was another use for notepad than a "formatting sink".

I really like that term, btw.

@maxleibman The creatively-named Windows rehabilitation utility "RemoveWindowsAI" has a tool that will remove the crappy new versions of Notepad, Paint, etc. and replace them with the real ones:
