I'm starting to lose my interest in the fedi. Sometimes I feel like I'm in a 1950s café full of people talking endlessly about "The Revolution" or debating the minutiae of Trotsyism, as if talking earnestly to people who already agree with you on a social-justice or political topic could change the world.

I acknowledge that I've contributed to that chatter — a lot — but I also realise it might be healthier if I scaled back and focussed on local Ottawa accounts, shared interests (like classical guitar, gardening, emacs, or tea), and a few Individual accounts that belong to friends and/or are just too fun and ornery to give up.

I haven't decided yet, but if I do unfollow you, it's not a judgement on you or the quality of your posts.

It's not you; it's me.

@david_megginson I would go further and say that i am starting to see the fediverse like the Truth Social of the left. The extremism and lack of diversity in the community is actually disturbing. Living in this echo chamber can't be healthy at all.

Things are a bit better in bluesky, which by fedi standards, is already a nazi network.
