Why does this keep happening? Grammarly recently introduced an AI chat, and also, their spell-checking service, which previously was their main product, suffers from constant reliability issues since them. I'm paying for this service, because it used to be good, I never asked for an AI chat. I can go to ChatGPT, or Google, which used to be a search engine and is now an AI chat with a worse version of the search engine attached. Not that I'd want any of that.
@hanno agreed! Grammarly just got noticeably worse at suggesting ways to improve the clarity of my writing for me, too. Instead of just restructuring, it now suggests wholesale meaning changes.

@hanno I use LanguageTool. I doubt it is as good as Grammarly used to be, but it is better than a simple spell checker, so it might be better than what Grammarly is becoming.

As a bonus, on Linux I use @sonny 's amazing Eloquent[1], which runs a local instance, and I configure the browser extension to use localhost, which means it works fully offline.

It is also FLOSS and made by a German company if you care about that. You can buy professional support too.

@jntesteves I use both, because grammarly does not support German. But I wish I had something as good as grammarly for German, languagetool ain't it. (Yet, I also need it less, as I'm native German and not native English.)
