#Windows 11 #BitLocker defaults will upload the keys to a #Microsoft Account if available. Recent reporting shows how easily those centrally stored keys can become accessible to third parties when requested:

Whether or not a specific case is justified isn't really the point, the *default* behavior is. I am sure: such a default which exports encryption keys would not survive in any OSS ecosystem. And that's a good thing.
