There is a specific kind of dignity in using software that doesn't want anything from you.
My Jellyfin server doesn't remove episodes due to licensing disputes. My RSS feed doesn't hide posts to force me to pay for "reach."
It’s not just about security, though that’s a huge gain from it, it’s about the relationship with the machine.
We got so used to being the product that we forgot what it feels like to just be the owner.

What OS do you use? I’m guessing Linux?
@angietaylor
I use cachyOS right now and KDE plasma as my desktop, it's worked well for me thus far :)
@h333d @angietaylor Hmmm. Interesting. My hardware is all Apple so not as many options.
@angietaylor I'm presuming you have an M series mac? I have a 2019 intel macbook pro I've wanted to convert over but I need a computer that can run Ableton natively, so I haven't made the switch on ALL my devices lol
Sorry for delay - a long story! It’s a pretty old MBP - from 2011 I think?
@h333d i love my jellyfin server !!!!!!!
@swagpuppy420
Right?? It's a really nice thing to have and provide. Currently im only hosting my music library on mine, and use slsk/nicotine+ for finding music. I know there's probably ways to automate it but I like the process of finding tracks and curating my library :3
@h333d Praise be the Divine Machine and the Holy Pact.

@h333d There is a more respectful relationship possible too. Please everyone think of the free software you enjoy and find ways to support the developers with cash, bug reports, contributions, or just plain appreciation.

I wish there was a way we could nominate and vote for a free software project that needs support each month and kick them some bucks.
Does this already exist?

@h333d This is exactly why I do what I do. This exact feeling.
