Beforeigners. The premise is that people from the past start mysteriously materializing in the water off of Oslo (and other cities around the world, but it's a Norwegian show). This becomes the backdrop for a buddy cop show in which a burned-out veteran detective gets partnered up with an 11th-century viking who's fresh out of the academy.

Ok, I’m a couple of episodes into #Beforeigners and I’m finding it weird but interesting.

I’m especially fascinated by the premise that there are all these immigrants from the past showing up in modern day Norway (timeigrants, as it were) and how the country struggles to integrate them.

There’s a definite parallel with how migrant integration from ‘other’ countries is effecting Scandinavian countries which have historically been very homogenous, however the rub here is that time-migrants are from the same place, just a different time, so they share the same cultural heritage (albeit many of the arrives cultural norms and practices are foreign to the modern day Norwegians). And, the mysterious/supernatural nature of thier arrival is such that ‘just send them home’ isn’t a possibility.

This isn’t the main focus of the show, but I hope they play around with this idea some more.

I'm so glad you're enjoying it! I think you'll find that they do some interesting things with the timeigrant issues, especially how various individuals from the past embrace or reject particular 21st-century attitudes and technologies. The character of Gregers (Ingrid's stepdad) is especially interesting in this regard because he's such a proper 19th-century gentleman but also so open-minded.

The way they introduce the transtemporal community is cringey at times, but it's also an important part of the world building, because *of course* there would be present-day people who would look at these other ways of life and want to adopt them
