Finally a tram in 2026? I think there's an excellent story here for @notjustbikes to cover. How transit in the Netherlands can also have it's issues but eventually be a success!

The trams vibration and electromagnetic noise were a strong consideration for the lines location and after extensive testing the previous generation of trams was approved, only to be replaced by newer trams before a single tram rode the tracks...

The park is MUCH nicer than the old road too

Will the tram finally be running across the campus in 2026? - Delta

More than twenty years after TU Delft agreed to the construction of a tram line across the campus, it now seems that it will actually happen. Tram 19 will start running in 2026, according to an information board next to the Aula. Test and trial runs with empty trams will start in March.

@pa3weg @notjustbikes They started work when I was still working at the TU Delft. So that they are now almost finished fits with my mental picture of how old I am.

I have memories of crossing Mekelweg in between lectures, dodging the cars. And the fuel station at the corner of Mekelweg & Drebbelweg next to EWI.

Might still have a few pictures of it, and perhaps even a video. I'll dig through my harddrive to see what i've got.

So far I've come up empty handed, but I'm still looking!

If it's not for a video then it's for nostalgia
I remember filming it, crossing my fingers it's somewhere in my archives..

@pa3weg @dodecadron @notjustbikes Yeah, I remember the talk about "The tram line is finally really being extended" around the time I graduated… and me thinking "Well, it's about time! I'll sadly mis it, but at least whenever I come back I'll get to use it, and those lucky students after me will have a much nicer way to get from the station to the campus in a couple of years."

@pa3weg @dodecadron @notjustbikes When I was back at to the campus the last time for some admin stuff, the city had removed my spare Delft-bike from the station, so I had to take the bus. The was me sitting in the bus thinking that maybe next time I would be there, they'd be working on or already have the tram in operation. Oh silly, naive me 😂
