Keir Starmer needs to show more leadership with respect to dealing with Trump's fascist America. Arguably, any leadership whatsoever would be a start. Whilst he might be playing a clever game behind the scenes, everyone I know thinks he's indecisive and appeasing the orange tyrant. Carney and Macron portray themselves as much stronger leaders, willing to stand up to Trump's tyranny and threats. Give a bully an inch and he'll take a mile; or in this case, give him a second state visit and he'll think it's ok to steal territory and build a nuclear-powered data centre in the Yorkshire Dales, or something.
Stand firm. I vividly remember a TV series from my childhood, The Flashing Blade. Made in the 1960s, with dubious production and even more dubious dubbing, it was French and had a story set in the 17th century. Anyway, the lyrics of the theme tune say it all:
You've got to fight for what you want
For all that you believe
It's right to fight for what we want
To live the way we please
As long as we have done our best
Then no one can do more
And life and love and happiness
Are well worth fighting for
And we should never count the cost
Or worry that we'll fall
It's better to have fought and lost
Than not have fought at all
Let's always take whatever comes
And never try to hide
Face everything and anyone
Together side by side
Come on #SirKeir. Stand up with our European friends and allies, and show Trump that we will no longer tolerate his behaviour. It's better to have fought and lost than not have fought at all.
