Please exercise caution when you are outside, especially if you are trans or gender non-conforming. Avoid taking risks that could lead to trouble for yourself or for the people you live with – others could upload videos to social media and/or make police reports. We advise dressing modestly to avoid unwanted attention.
Be particularly careful if you are using dating apps or engaging in sex work. If you are Muslim or could be perceived to be Muslim, there is additional risk of involvement of religious authorities. If you do not yet have UNHCR documents, this will also heighten your vulnerability.
If you are going out, please ensure that a trusted friend knows where you are going and can raise the alarm if something happens. Avoid places that may be targeted for raids such as Chow Kit, Bukit Bintang and clubbing areas. Stay safe and please take care of each other.
