Had a great idea for a quick app I could build using Spotify's API, only to find that since I last worked with it they'll only grant access to apps that are already launched and have >250K MAUs.

In other words, they no longer want indies building apps to enrich their platform.

Fuck you Spotify and your enshittification, hope the ICE recruitment ads were worth it

@shaundon maybe I’m missing something, but how could I have a service that has users if I can’t build against the api first? What would I be offering users? Or is that the point, to dissuade use of the api?

@ragnarose I think the idea is to gatekeep it to existing apps that want to add a Spotify integration (e.g. if Strava wanted to add an integration) as opposed to apps whose sole purpose is to work with Spotify
