@andrewstroehlein I feel you’ve missed much more pervasive underlying factors that have been bubbling away for years: a poor education system and highly concentrated media environment. The US has lived in its own stew of ignorant nonsense for decades. It’s finally hit the boil.
@Talia @andrewstroehlein From the US myself and this was the big missing link to me. The callout of our “defense” industry as a de facto political organization (arguably the first unity between the corporate and the state powers in increasing fascism? Or does oil get that spot, where “defense” merely served to advance its interests?) was solid, but the way media (and then tech) money executed the same ownership play over our politicians has been just as or more transformative over a shorter period. Our educational systems are full of amazing, committed people fighting that trillion-dollar onslaught of patent ahistorical disinformation armed with little more than pencils (which they have to supply themselves, because there’s no funding.)
