Question. The one time I used the term "clanker", someone told me that this is a rightwing dogwhistle. What's up with that?

Because I see a bunch of people on here use it where it'd really surprise me if they were rightwing at all.

Is that or is that not a rightwing dogwhistle? Why?

@koex i dont know what it could be a dogwhistle for.
i have hokever seen ppl make the much more reasonable point, that the instinct to calling things/beings you dont like smth akin to a slur is not a useful attitude to have

@sinnombre Yeah the fact that it's used as a slur is probably why people connected it to being a dogwhistle. Personally I felt that is a bit far-fetched, because we aren't talking about anything that feels, that's similar to calling my printer a slur... But I see how that's not a useful attitude to have, too. It softens the boundaries to using real slurs. I don't know what I think about this yet. Hoping to get more perspectives, boosts appreciated.
