What???
@andrewstroehlein I have questions.
Is there a database in universities where people's religions or beliefs are being recorded?
If so, for what purpose? When and how is this data collected? How is one's religion or belief being collected or determined?
If not, why won't UPenn simply say they do not collect this information?
@mspcommentary @andrewstroehlein a bit of tricky phrasing.
“These requests would require Penn to create and turn over a centralized registry of Jewish students, faculty, and staff..."
Does that mean that the information exist, but is not in a centralized registry - or that it doesn't exist at all?
If it doesn't exist at all, how precisely are they going to compile the list? I doubt people would simply supply truthful information freely knowing where it's going to go to.
When you want to protect women, you don't need a list of all women in order to pass a law.
A list is useless and dangerous.
> The US Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) is demanding the university turn over names and personal information about Jewish members of the Penn community as part of the administration’s stated goal to combat antisemitism on campuses.
I'm sure many of us could see this coming, but that doesn't make it less surreal... literally anti-Semitism dressed up as "anti-Semitism prevention". Just... gutting.
@andrewstroehlein I am puzzled by this. Humans are ao bad at defending against privacy invasions, Trumps admins could just buy a list of jews at this university from Facebook.
THIS is why privacy matters. If you don't protect it, evil governments will keep lists. If Hitler had facebook quality data he wouldn't have missed any jews. GPS coordinates would have steered the goons right to their targets.
We are seeing ICE practice these dark skills now.
