Question for the #OpenStreetMap community.

How would you tag if a restaurant has a “discretionary” service charge?

I’m thinking
fee=conditional
charge:conditional=12.5%

If mandatory then I’d say fee=yes but the phrasing of these and the use of “discretionary” usually implies they’re optional

@jackgilmore I'm not sure fee=* and charge=* on an amenity=restaurant would apply just to the service charge. I'd interpret them as applying to the overall fee/charge for eating there. You'd need a different tag for just the service charge part of the payment. Also the *:conditional key suffix comes with specific syntax you'd want to follow, to specify the condition for the given value to apply

@rjw62 thanks. From discussions with others, it’s feeling like it may be worth a proposal on the wiki to come up with a convention
