We had a debate about this with a couple of friends. In Finland wind is measures as metres per second (rather than kilometres per hour or miles per hour). The argument for kph is that one can intuitively compare to speed of bicycle/car, whereas the argument for m/s is ‘it’s not about speed, but force’.
