Performance reviews have always been bullshit tools meant to give business a way to manipulate employees and make up excuses for not giving basic pay increases or bonuses.
I’m lucky that my current job level gives my scope to ask for changes to the standard contract. I had my primary office defined as my home address, specified a longer notice during the probation period, and removed the required for annual reviews. For the first 2 years Performance will be based on the savings I generate. At 2 years we’ll renegotiate my performance metric.
