Tonight's weird project: I'll have to see if I get the #Steam version of #DragonAgeOrigins running.

Apparently it hasn't received all of the latter compatibility fixes since EA did a dumb and decided to take their toys elsewhere. Thanks to the CD key share thing back in the day I *have* the game on Origin, but damn me if I try to install anything from there if I have the chance.

I dunno what I was worried about, DAO:Ultimate runs fiiiiiiiine on my laptop.

Weird things though:

1) On first run the game defaulted to 800x600? That's pretty crass by 2009 standards.

2) The install tells you to go activate the DLC on the Bioware Social website... which has been down for ages. Fortunately, you can just run the included tools and the DLC is activated.

3) I was worried why seemingly no one doing let's plays of DAO was logging on the Dragon Age servers, but the answer, of course, is that omg the servers r teh dead. Why the heck did they leave the login button on the main screen though?

4) Oh man, I can't wait to get all of the steam achievements on this! ... ... ...there are no Steam achievements. (Well there are fortunately in-game achievements, so that's something.)

5) Oh and gotta be careful, no Steam Cloud support, looks like
