"why do you spend so much time with preservation and "copy games"-things ? it's just a waste! people have done it before you!

well.. every now and then, you come across things like this

http://8bitag.com/info/weird-wood-ii.html

(in short, a single known copy of this game was known to exist.)

The owner (very graciously) sent me the game.

The floppy was barely readable, with LOADS of read-errors

Using an IEEE488 cart on an ultimate64 elite II, I managed to get something out... a dirlisting.
And lots and lots of read-errors

So, zoomfloppy... Same story, loads and loads of errors

(when booting the disk on a real PET with an 8050, the computer crashed after showing the logo-screen)

... However.. After countless hours, probably 500ml of isopropanol and various other liquids...

Vice, xpet now boots the game

I suck at the game, so I die almost immediately.. but I'll do some more testing before releasing it to the world.

Ah, and the death-screen. Ofcourse :)

And just to be 100% clear.. it wasn't just the cleaning that was needed. I got loads and loads of help from other parties as well, but I haven't asked them if they are okay to be mentioned yet, so I won't at this point.

If they do, I'll give them proper thanks and mentions when the time comes.

@Dozer "You are eaten by a willow"
"don't you mean Grue?"
"Nope, a willow tree."

lost in the gloom of the trees.
There is a small boat tied to the bank.

HINT

I don't understand that.

W

You are in a dark and gloomy glade. The trees all look twisted and evil. In the centre of the glade is a large dead willow tree, the trunk of which is apparently hollow.

EXAMINE TREE

I don't understand that.

EXAMINE TRUNK

The willow tree was not dead after all and it has just eaten you

You had a sudden attack of death.

Your score is-15 out of 360 in 25 moves, giving you a rating of COMPUTER PROGRAMMER.
