[DS2] I played Scholar is it worth playing the base game?

Unless you already own the base game, it’s not worth it since the differences are pretty minimal. SotFS introduced the Aldia pop-up moments, includes all 3 DLC areas by default, and shuffled around several enemy spawn locations (the most notable ones being in Shrine of Amana). Aside from those things, it’s the same experience

Oh alright then, I figured there was more than that because I thought some people didn’t like the changes in scholar. Those mostly seem pretty straightforward, enemy placement was generally the thing I hated though Shrine of Amana was so brutal.

Honestly the two things I hated the most was some enemy placement felt brutal, it felt like there were more than necessary sometimes and they followed you for so long that it felt like you couldn’t run past anything so you had to fight everything all the time.

I asked the same question year or two back I think and responses could be summed up “yes if you really liked Scholar”. I like it a lot, so I did buy the game. But I haven’t had time to actually give it a go yet, so no personal experience to add.

Otherwise I would say all the DLC is well worth playing. Each of them has a multiplayer thing that kinda sucks IMO, but otherwise they’re great.

Cool, I’m definitely going to give it another shot at some point. There were some things about it that were so cool and unique to it but the few spots I disliked were rough. I’ll definitely try to give the dlc a shot next time.
I never played the OG but from what I have read about it, it would be easier as it has fewer enemies and slightly different arrangements in a lot of rooms. It also was locked to 30fps and Scholar retains a bug running at 60 whereby every timer runs twice as fast, so torches and buffs only last half as long. Torch could say 12 minutes, but you’ll only get 6 real time.
