WeirdGoesProI agree that it’s unfortunate he’s not running, but smear campaign? Unless I missed something, I thought there was no dispute that a massive crime was being committed on his watch. In my opinion, it’s pretty negligent to not even check if there are kids in the childcare facilities that are getting funding. One inspection at funding renewal time would have been doable.

How much do you want to bet that tightening licenses for childcare providers is a nonstarter for republicans because it would mean shutting down virtually all church-based childcare centers?
If they were going to reform it in any way would be more like this.
“You know having this assistance for only poor people is actually discrimination, we must offer this money to all people who have to pay for child care regardless of income”
If you want proof of this, take a look at North Carolina School voucher system, Republicans remove the income cap so now no matter how much you make if your kid is in private school you can get a voucher.
The first part I’m not against, means-testing benefit programs makes them more susceptible to being destroyed through small cuts here and there because not everyone benefits in the first place. If democrats actually wanted to win, they could respond with “we shouldn’t discriminate, let’s make the benefit universal, you just need to use a childcare center who accepts our rate.”
Same for Iowa, and in response the private schools conveniently raised prices by the voucher amount so they make even more and still keep out the poor. Win win for them and the gop

The department had not confirmed Shirley's allegations of fraud at the time of this writing, nor could Snopes independently verify the figures his report used. And, even starting on the assumption that this fraud was happening, why on Earth would that be Tim Walz fault? Is anyone claiming that he was in on it somehow? Was he running a fraudulent daycare? Or are gonna pretend like he's to blame for something happening "on his watch" as if he's some kind of omniscient deity?
It's not the Governors job to prosecute crimes, let alone somehow prevent them from happening in the first place.
If a massive fraud was being committed, it would be up to the Minnesota or US AG to prosecute based on available evidence.
