@AmandaMarcotte you rightly checked the Satanic Panic of the 80s... I don't think this is unrelated though. Listen to how often conservative influencers and politicians and pundits refer to left ideas as "demonic." They want the Satanic Panic to come back in a big way because they believe they can use it to persecute people they don't like. It's pretty sick.
