Seriously, the autodubbing feature in YouTube, which I can't disable, brings me this much closer to cancelling my subscription and uninstalling it forever. What a pile of garbage it has become.
@afilina What do you mean “can’t disable”? I watch dozens of videos every day and none of them are automatically dubbed
@grmpyprogrammer If you're watching videos in different languages YT will assume you speak only one (not sure which setting it uses) and all others are dubbed by god awful AI. Unless creator disables it, you need to turn it off for each video individually.
@shudder Ah, I understand now. I rarely watch videos in a language other than English so of course I would not see that behaviour

@grmpyprogrammer @shudder It gets even worse though. It also auto-translates the titles to English. There's no clear indication of any of this in the search results either.

Previously, such videos were excluded from search per my preferred languages. Here's YouTube slipping a Spanish video into my results:

@grmpyprogrammer @shudder And apparently some YouTubers said that they can't even turn it off for older videos. Nil Nilgiree explains the whole mess:

Don't Let YouTube's AI Treat You like a Fool

@afilina this is also driving me nuts - most stuff I watch in English, some in Russian and some in German. I wonder how hard can it be to conclude that if I watch a video till the and in any language that I most likely speak it and don’t need shitty auto dubbing.

@dev_bro Indeed, having watched a video until the end assumes you're fine with that language (even if it's Japanese with subtitles, for example).

Even if I don't speak a language and there are no subtitles, I'd rather not watch it than hear a robotic voice that uses the wrong words for common things. Like when you hear "lighthouse" instead of "buoy". So confusing!

It's also not nice to the video creator unless they explicitly agreed to it, in my opinion.
