I found that neither newpipe nor pipepipe work on a google TV streaming box (yeah I know google, but are there others anymore except appletv?).

What are people using to watch YouTube on the big screen without ads? My phone is ungoogled so can't cast. I was thinking setting up a Jellyfin server and yt-dlp'ing channels to there though that sounds slightly over engineered?

@fedops I was using libreelec on raspi 3b+ connected to a non smart tv, was using sendtokodi addon. And this setup was just for kids to watch youtube. Now switched to postmarketos and sxmo, which has youtube scripts. I just ssh into it and search for videos to play. So for google TV installing kodi and using sendToKodi addon may be one option.
