#OEIS

Is this sequence important enough to be included in the OEIS? Normally, only longer sequences are included.

Please take part in the poll I am attaching!

Is the sequence shown in the picture above important enough to be included in the OEIS? Normally, only longer sequence are included.
Is important and should be included
Important but unsuitable because it is too short
Does not need to be documented in the OEIS
Poll ends at .
@peterluschny the fact that the set { 0,1 } satisfies this specification as a subset of the ring of integers is certainly important! But it seems almost useless in an index of sequences. Is there a reasonable use case?

@noamzoam

I can't answer this question in general terms, but I have played around with an alternative trisection of the natural numbers that is based on this and doesn't seem unreasonable.

Or maybe it's useful for making sequences using OEIS transformations that relate series to each other.

@peterluschny @noamzoam

@RefurioAnachro @peterluschny yes I can see the use of having entries like this in order to be able to express partitions / transformations of sequences in terms of other sequences. And as Peter wrote, the annoyance of very short sequences showing up in searches could be dealt with potentially by changing the search engine.
@noamzoam @RefurioAnachro @peterluschny There appear to be ways of using OEIS that I wasn't particularly aware of. I don't know whether it changes my vote but it does make me wonder about a whole new class of questions.
@peterluschny It always turns up in searches when I'm looking for something else.
@davidradcliffe @peterluschny Yes, this is inconvenient, so I asked for an exception for that sequence specifically, but it ended up being removed completely. https://github.com/oeis/oeis/issues/56
@PSL2Z @peterluschny Oof, that seems overly harsh to me.
@davidradcliffe @PSL2Z
This is annoying, but it is a bug in the search system that suggests many completely irrelevant results. This is what needs to be fixed.

@davidradcliffe @PSL2Z

A simple solution that immediately comes to mind would be to filter all results with the keyword ‘bref’ from the suggestions. If you want to find such results, you have to specify more precisely. The search algorithm is also sensitive enough to respond to text.

@peterluschny I voted for the option A007413(11) but I don't feel strongly either way, even though I caused its recycling (because Sean learned of its existence from me).

@peterluschny This is not a sequence, but a set, so shouldn't be included for that reason. If you add 'in ascending order' it becomes a sequence, but that seems even more niche.

Separately, even though OEIS is a community effort, it is also a specialist effort. So I'm not sure a voting mechanism is appropriate, unless votes are accompanied by a rationale.
