@gokunaruto can you post your "pluribus take" on this website since it has the content warning feature. i am interested in seeing more peoples' pluribus takes, i'm like if the hive was optimising for seeing takes instead of the other stuff
@tinytachyon its not well formed - it's just that they made them vegan then decided that was in danger of being too morally justified, so they went the extra mile to make them unable to hurt plants, and it feels kinda reactionary push them towards the unjustifiable extreme to make them seem unrelatable, lest they accidentally present the collectivism allegory as an unambiguous good and allow the audience to linger on the morality of veganism. like i said it's just me being unhinged
@gokunaruto ohhh i totally see this. yeah in general this show is sometimes being "the screwfly solution but if the sons of adam were nice and polite" and sometimes it's kind of being "rhea seehorn is the last libertarian in this godless commie world" so i liked season 1 quite a lot but am completely unsure if season 2 is going to be good or extremely bad
@tinytachyon i think its meant to be exploratory of individualism vs collectivism, and ambiguous, and thats fine, it's just that it feels like veganism was caught in the crossfire. it doesn't help me think straight about this that "oh dont you know that plants feel pain?" is common reactionary rhetoric
@gokunaruto what i mean is, its ambiguous exploration of individualism vs collectivism is one of the show's weaker points to me, whereas whenever it taps into "what if you were a closeted conversion therapy survivor who habitually covers your drink at the bar, and then an alien that doesn't care much about consent but cares a lot about 'biological imperatives' took over humanity" it does so really well imo
@gokunaruto in this vein i immediately got my hackles up when the show started doing the "ohhh they're all bleeding-heart vegans but, like, even more!!!" thing, but what i'm assuming/hoping is this is going to pay off with "yes of course the space aliens infected you with the RNA that makes you pathologically nice, that'll be very convenient for them"
