RIP Cecelia Giménez, whose effort to restore a religious painting gave us a legend.
Cecelia Giménez was obviously a bit upset at the reactions to her efforts to restore a painting that meant so much to her. She insisted that the version the world saw and reacted to was never the finished product, that it was a work in progress. Eventually she found some pride in it; tourism dollars generated by the fresco went on to pay for elder care, and Cecelia was paid via merchandising profits.
@infernusgoatus Still one of my all-time favourite stories.
