Like you and 10,000 other people, I have no clue what to make of Marjorie Tayler Greene and her volte-face.
1. People can change, often surprisingly so — amazing grace.
2. People who show themselves to be ... dubious characters ... can play games — v. George R.R. Martin.
3. Some people love the limelight — hello there, Gwyneth Paltrow and Donald J. Trump.
Whatever's going on with her (and we'd be well-advised to remain chary), it's always fascinating when a world-class fraudster is turned on by one of his/her marks.
So I read Robert Draper's report on her with great interest, and my interest is rewarded by nuggets like this:
After House Oversight Committee meeting in September at which Epstein's victims, who had paid their own way to fly to D.C. and speak to Congressional members, Greene spoke out on behalf of the victims. Trump then called her, and:
"Greene was in her Capitol Hill office, and according to a staff member, everyone in the suite of rooms could hear him yelling at her as she listened to him on speakerphone."
"Greene says she expressed her perplexity over his intransigence. According to Greene, Trump replied, 'My friends will get hurt.'
When she urged Trump to invite some of Epstein’s female victims to the Oval Office, she says, he angrily informed her that they had done nothing to merit the honor. It would be the last conversation Greene and Trump would ever have."
"Greene’s last exchange with the president was by text message on Nov. 16. That day, she received an anonymous email in her personal Gmail account that threatened her college-aged son:
'Derek will have his life snuffed out soon. Better watch his back.' The email’s subject heading used the nickname Trump had given her the day before: 'Marjorie Traitor Greene.'"
"Greene promptly texted that information to the president. According to a source familiar with the exchange, his long reply made no mention of her son. Instead, Trump insulted her in personal terms. When she replied that children should remain off limits from their disagreements, Trump responded that she had only herself to blame."
Marjorie Taylor Greene has Trump's number. She knows exactly who he is. From the inside.
And even if we may justifiably remain suspicious of her motives, we'd do well to listen to what she has to tell us about this — I cannot and will not avoid the word "evil" — man who has so much power in his hands.
I'm reminded constantly in this Trump era of my last full-time boss, who was the embodiment of narcissistic psychopathy. She harmed I do not know how many people, and took obvious sadistic delight in doing so.
And with each job she lost, it was someone she had lured into her web and made her henchman, someone who initially believed in her and who ended up knowing more about her dark deeds than anyone else, who blew the whistle on her.
The last time she was fired as a college president, her second-in-command wrote a tell-all letter to her university board as he lay dying. When the board received it, she was fired.
I never had any reason to believe in or trust that man who blew the whistle. I did know, however, that he had the goods on the narcissistic psychopath. The board knew that, too, and immediately acted on his posthumously delivered letter.
We'd do well to keep listening to Ms. Taylor Greene.
@wdlindsy She feels duped because she believes in trickle-down economics, racism and bigotry, white supremacy and other hurtful policies genuinely while Trump's only in them for the money?
Oh cry me a river honey. Trump doesn't believe in ANY DAMN THING.
Does it matter, she has no compassion or empathy for all, she is selfish and a bigot
