🦊some people treat secrets in games as "obstacles" that prevent them from "beating the game" that they have to use a guide for, and not part of the intended experience of sitting down and just working everything out yourself, and it's like, at this point did you really beat the game?
@roxy Cassette Beasts actually kind of bugged me by offering a cool riddle and then having a character go "Here's a lil marker on your map because you were taking too long, lol." I was essentially putting off finishing the game at that point, not looking for a way to sidestep a challenge.
@DamonWakes 🦊 what the heck?? why would the dev do this?
@roxy @DamonWakes iirc you get a song when battling the first boss, but it's incomplete and you need to battle the others to have the full song that tells you how to get to the ending

there's one more boss you can battle, but it's optional, you can go to the final area at this point anyway (in fact, you can go to the final area even with an incomplete song)

it's still something that bugs me so much about cassette beasts (despite it being my favorite game), i really wish they'd have made it so your partner's like "hey i think i can crack it, do you want me to help" before telling you the answer right away
@Theotime812 @roxy Yesssss. That's what I would have preferred. I mean, I don't feel as though I missed out on a significant element of the game because of it, but I was very much wrapping up optional material INSTEAD of gunning for the end of the main quest.
@roxy @DamonWakes The other annoying part is that the place and action are different for each save

Which makes it super cool and prevents you from just reading a walkthrough to complete the game, but then they just do that
@Theotime812 @roxy Ahhh, I didn't know that! That is neat. Although it also sort of explains why I felt as though my clues didn't quite add up to what was expected of me. It's not that I would never ever have needed the help, just that I was a long way off needing it when it was foisted on me.
