#GeorgeEliot was buried #OTD 1880 in Highgate's Eastern Cemetery. Crowds braved the weather to pay their respects. On her grave are words from one of her poems: "Of those immortal dead who live again/ In minds made better by their presence." Heartening to think that many of us would agree!
