the journey to 39C3 is getting off to a great start
they really should tie the trains to the rails better. they shouldn't be falling out
instead they're doing the opposite… the zugbindung is aufgehoben…
well i won't say no to a little unplanned copenhagen adventure to kill time, though i bet a lot of shops are closed today…
“hello can i have meaningful social connection and discourse please”
“sir this is a schismogenesis shop. now step into the atomiser”
giving up on reaching Hamburg today, I guess we'll see if we feel like taking an early train tomorrow
day 2 and the birds were waiting for us this morning. an auspicious day… we're in a better mood also. let's go
if a train operated by Deutsche Bahn isn't delayed a few minutes before it even arrives and then immediately delayed again at the time it should have arrived, does it even make a sound
if a train operated by Deutsche Bahn isn't delayed a few more times, can we even be sure it was real
if a train… der Bahn…
if a train operated by Deutsche Bahn isn't delayed at least 30 minutes and still doesn't show up, does life have a meaning
yet more delay and an announcement in danish-accented English that they have no idea when the train will actually arrive lmfao

lmao another +5 minutes

see, a train has actually arrived on this platform now

… but only because they apparently no longer believe the DB train will be arriving soon so they're allowing a DSB train to arrive at this platform first

waiting for DB trains is fun because i too constantly make overoptimistic time estimates with no basis even as it becomes increasingly implausible that they are true and my credibility has been destroyed by the previous ten times i didn't deliver
if a train … one hour …
they delayed it again a few minutes ago and then it disappeared from the display entirely
they made another announcement, they still have no idea when the train will show up, so that's probably why it's disappeared for now
tog
oh this is a fancy new DSB train! wao
our train nerd friends tell us this service might actually be operated by DSB these days. in which case I… still suspect the delays are probably DB's fault one way or another… I'd say DB Netz but apparently DB Netz isn't what it's called any more…
train is moving! yaay
in Hamburg

you know it's a German city when the public transit

  • has multiple apps for no obvious reason and they are trying to market the new one to you rather than like, making it so there's only one
  • paying by SEPA direct debit in the app fails
  • paying by debit card in the app fails
  • the ticket machine is straight out of 2007
  • the ticket machine doesn't accept contactless payment
  • you should have been a good citizen and used the app that doesn't work so too bad you pay extra for using a ticket machine like some tourist
🏨🛏️😮‍💨
why do germans love forcing pedestrians to cross terrifying multi-lane roadways with high speed limits and why does every german driver want to murder pedestrians indiscriminately
oh yeah we're actually @ 39C3 for real now uhh yeah
@hikari maaan it would be lovely to reconnect, but I'm stuck in my hotel room with the flu. Have a wonderful Congress!
@hikari also it's Germany the cars have more rights than the people

@hikari ohh! I've dealt with this when I went to Hamburg. I wrote this down in my notes:

Use the "hvv switch" app. It's hard to know which exact pass to use, so plan your journey on Google Maps, then tap "Pay with your phone" to open the hvv switch app with the correct details filled in.

@hikari I didn't have any issues paying with an international card on the app - it just worked for me - but IIRC I had to sign up for an account
@mcpower their payment provider rejected both our (Euro MasterCard) debit card and our (Euro, German) bank IBAN 😥
@mcpower its route planning is good though
@hikari I redownloaded the app and it turns out that I used PayPal as my payment method - maybe try that instead? I recall the direct card payment might have been finicky with 3-D Secure
@hikari What, no Deutschlandticket?
@hikari I blame the Spanish (the Talgos are being problematic)
@hikari yeah it's an ICE-L DSB Edition
@hikari I like how the screen can't decide if it's DK/EN or DK/DE
@hikari is this a reference to the hit nebula original series jet lag the game produced by wendover productions

@hikari rip

I hope my overnight sleeper has better luck tonight (here's hoping, it's the SJ euronight one..)

@hikari and I hope yer train shows up soon ._.
@firefly one imagines overnight trains ought to have less problems with delays!
@hikari at what point does it make sense to use your Aufgehoben Zugbindung to take Danish regional ICs to Hamburg?
@erincandescent good question!
@erincandescent …if we'd thought of that fifteen minutes ago it might have been a good idea ^^;
@erincandescent DB show one at 13:50 b— oh my god the train finally showed up now
@hikari is so infuriating when organisations run trains that cost several €million per, and then can't glue a €30 gps doohickey on the side.
I have the same complaint with most buses.
@hikari okay admittedly you need slightly more electronics than just a gps receiver but anyway a secondhand €30 low end smartphone does in fact have all of it
@hikari

Hamburg Hbf

Damn, they redesigned Hamburg Hbf over the last few days
@erincandescent not really the right way to deal with DB's image problem
