My lovely wife got me an amazing Christmas present...

...when I was a child my original dream job was astronomer (I never use this as a security question so don't mind revealing). Where we live now it's quite a dark sky and they turn the street lights off in the night, and I mentioned maybe I would like to get a telescope a while ago.

Anyway she got me a Dwarf Labs 3 smart telescope, and suddenly I'm all over looking up moon phases and cloud cover predictions, and my childhood joy is alive

It's a pretty bad picture really, but I'm pleased considering I just had a very quick go (I'm not equipped for sitting outside in this cold!) but I'm happy I got Jupiter, Europa, Io, and Calisto in a shot already

@eviljonny excellent capture ! Jupiter is a good target at the moment and it's very visible and useful anchor

If you have an android device stellarium + is a good app for finding the general direction of things and has quite a good database of stuff to target too

@mcrmonkey Thanks, I will check out Stellarium. Looks like it's going to be a few days before I get a clear night again, but such is the time of the year
