Merry Christmas! To the non-trans folks out there can you give me a present?

If your family gathering gets political, don’t defend trans folks; celebrate them.

Don’t deny that trans folks are bad, insist that they are good. Explain that society and the world is worse without them. Don’t deny their hate, express to them the love and light trans folks bring to the world.

@rooster
My daughter in law is trans; so thats not an issue at our place (luckily)

@rooster This is a great way to frame what I've been trying to articulate for a bit now!

Don't try to explain why someone's bigotry is wrong. Instead, take control of the conversation and explain why trans/queer/minority people are amazing! Talk about how incredible our accomplishments are and all the things we add to the world.

Make it feel stupid for someone to even suggest otherwise, rather than validating their idiocy.

@rooster
Thanks for the reminder! We're not here to beg for their crumbs, we're here to revel in the joys!

TBC, I'm a protective ally; not trans myself... But too often we fall back on defending ourselves and our loved ones. Responding to whatever fresh evil is making the rounds.

We should be proactively asserting joy, and health, and love! Not debating their fresh insanity.

@bekit

@rooster Being trans myself, and no longer young and having seen and done a lot, I have to say, the ultimate level of acceptance isn't being celebrated, but being recognized as being just like everyone else, for all practical purposes. Some of us are awful people, or just well less than wonderful sometimes. Years of oppression does not sanctify us. That's reality. We're all human, and all imperfect, and on average no better or worse than anyone else.
@rooster Absolutely! Though I will definitely have my hands full not allowing others to misgender my kid.
@rooster Having my friend who is trans over for Christmas, she's always welcome.
