The symbolism is more a visual bait for people like you. I don’t think it means all lefties are stalinists. Many flags have stars and stripes, for example, the most meaningless crap anybody ever cared to put on a rag. So chill.

Correct. It’s a universal, internationally recognized symbol to which the USSR doesn’t lay sole claim.
AFAIK the USSR was the first country to implement communism and it exported it to others. The hammer and sickle originates from them.
So anyone romanticizing those symbols and claiming that this flavor of communism was open to different sexualities, genders, religions, races is extremely ignorant.
It is liberalism that is accepting them, the communism that we had so far is just the other extreme compared to fascism.

I agree regarding to sexualities, unfortunately the USSR had a very mistaken position with the criminalization of homosexuality (though I have no data about it being prosecuted particularly, prosecution data would be interesting to compare it to countries of its time).
As for genders, the USSR enjoyed women suffrage from the beginning, and the Warsaw Pact had throughout its history higher female representation in public life, and by the 1960s, the USSR had more female engineers than the rest of the world combined. Between 1962 and 1964, 40% of PhDs in Chemistry in the USSR were awarded to women, compared to 5% in the USA. Valentina Tereshkova was the first woman in space.
Regarding races, the USSR massively supported the emancipation and decolonization of countries in Latin America, Africa and Asia. The policy of Korenizatsiia is possibly the first example in history of positive discrimination and attempt at national minorities obtaining representation in legislative bodies. Over the existence of the USSR, all Soviet republics had the right to their own official language, education up to university level (not included necessarily but included in many times) in their official languages, and in all republics except possibly Belarus, the majority of printed books and magazines were printed in the regional language. During the Stalin era there were unjustifiable mistakes such as the deportations of Crimean Tatars or Koreans, but this was nothing out of the norm for societies of that age (this was 1930s, for reference France murdered 1+ million locals in colonial Algeria as late as 1960). Overall, the race policy was extremely inclusive, to the point that Stalin himself was Georgian, and Khrushchev and Brezhnev were Ukrainian.
The USSR was extremely progressive for its time, let alone the fact that up to 1929 it was composed majorly of uneducated rural peasants who worked the lands with their own hands.
