Wrapping up my 2025 #ArtAdventCalendar – I wasn’t entirely happy with this set of drawings, the original plan had been to do one a week all year then pick my favourite 24. But I didn’t manage to do enough to be able to skip more than one. It was also a succession of not quite finding what I’d wanted to do with the drawings but knowing I wanted to do something. I’d rejected realism before last year’s Art Advent Calendar, then there were the whimsical doodles which are cool but I don’t actually have enough ideas to not repeat myself, then you can see I went to a William Morris exhibition (not quite that), a Mughal art exhibition (not quite that), and found Zentangles (closer). And now I have a tutorial for celtic knots (plus two books I already had) and I can sort of see how that and other geometric patterns could fit together with the Zentangle-ish patterns. Which is back to the abstract/geometric things I was originally trying to move away from … but the little brown bird is staying.
