OPNsense enjoyers: How solid is the "3GB RAM" minimum requirements? I've got pfSense running with one.
@izzy@social.shadowkat.net Mine was running with 2GB a few years ago, but I run it with 8GB now since I started using Suricata on it
@izzy Depends on what extra services you wanna run on it, but if its doing nothing fancy, just firewalling, routing, some Wireguard VPNing, Unbound for DNS resolving and even running HAproxy, you can get by with 2-3GB of RAM. My home firewall OPNsense VM doing all those things idles at about a gigabyte of used RAM on average
@izzy there is a ram requirement? huh

anyway uhh maybe not that hard? idk if the installer checks but im running a wireguard setup and some firewall rules atm and its very slightly under a gig
@ezio bluh. looks like I might end up having to double my router RAM allocation. or finding something else.
@izzy what makes you wanna switch anyway? am curious

also opnsense doesnt need a lot this is some garbage atom/pentium thing i found and it routes fine despite the slow chip.
@ezio because pfsense CE is functionally dead at this point and opnsense has better automation "levers"
@izzy fair enough, curious its diversed that much from pfsense already tbh
