Just reading about the power outage in SF leaving all the robo taxis stranded, just as I am waiting for my kid to leave a children's birthday, which he can't leave because all the lockers in the place are electronic and have a power issue.
I mean, really. It's lockers. Lockers are basically a solved problem. Why have lockers that can only be opened via electronic impulse from a computer system? What problem is that supposed to solve that couldn't be solved with a lock and key system?
@kyonshi the problem of 'not being able to charge a subscription fee for lockers'
@devilsjunkshop yeah, but that's a problem for the venue. I mean, the customers are using them for free. So right now I saw three people work on these lockers on a Sunday, while about 40 people waited for them to be available anymore and were given vouchers to compensate for the lost hour.
What actual value does a computer-controlled locker system bring a company if the alternative would have been one employee with a master key opening a stuck locker?
@kyonshi I presume the company that sells them has some sort of PR fluff about security and not needing to worry about missing keys etc.
