‘You put the top on and your life is sucked out of you’: The fight to change women’s sports uniforms - Lemmy.ca

When Olympian Tess Howard put on her new uniform for Great Britain’s women’s field hockey team in 2021, she felt something she hadn’t expected at the height of her athletic career: embarrassment.

Well their uniforms should be comfortable but also not ugly. Women being beautiful is just one of those free goods that we get in our reality. Most women enjoy being beautiful, and there is no downside so long as people aren’t taking it to crazy lengths.
The we seems like it just is you. They exist for your enjoyment?
Not just mine but everyone’s. I’m actually more on the demi/asexual side, but I do appreciate beauty, and people are beautiful. It’s not anything to be ashamed of. It’s actually a lot of work to be pretty. It’s something to be proud of. It makes everyone’s day better.
Women exist for other people’s enjoyment? You are a deranged and morally broken human.
No downsides except the psychological toll on young woman being forced into embarrassing, impractical outfits on the global stage against their will in a world where the most powerful men have been secretly runing a pedophillic sex ring that traffics young girls?

I kind of hate the idea of uniforms anyways because they are dehumanizing to everyone, but sports is one of the slaves where it kind of makes sense. You are on a team and stuff.

I think women having cute outfits is a good thing and I think most women agree.

I think women having cute outfits is a good thing and I think most women agree.

You can’t possibly be this sexist and tone deaf. The entire article is about how this is not true and how people like you are ruining sports for girls. You are the problem and you seem intent on making sure everyone here knows it, even though your original comment was removed for being so sexist.

There is nothing sexist about my comment. Just because I have a different opinion or value then you doesn’t make you better. Your idea of women’s sports is stupid. Nobody wants to do that, including most women I assume, except a small group of sexless weirdos like yourself.

You probably don’t deserve to live in a white democratic country. You should go move to Islamastan or something where most people agree with you.

Wow, sexist, racist and Islamophobic all at once.

There are several women just in this thread telling you that being objectified while trying to compete in a sport is a problem. No one is saying that people can’t dress sexy when they want to, we’re saying it’s a problem when it’s forced on us and expected of us to comply

Yeah, I’m banning this user now.

I can’t even make fun of you. Literally stun-locked by your idiocy.

I hope you grow sometime.

Just because I don’t agree with you, that doesn’t make me stupid, but making assumptions about people you don’t know anything about is really stupid.

I love when scumbags freely out themselves.

Women being beautiful is just one of those free goods that we get in our reality.

Like, that is messed up. Are you saying that women are just things to look at? Because that’s what it sounds like, yo.

For one thing there is an issue of agency, or control over their own appearance. Dressing up to look and feel pretty FOR THEMSELVES is a completely different thing from having an external force dictate their apparel. Let’s be real, that “external force” is probably mostly a bunch of old dudes.

Another issue, and this is a big one, sports isn’t about ogling hot bods! They are there to play sports. Athletes, especially Olympic ones, put immense work into training so they can excel at their sport of choice. They do not put all that work in just to become “eye candy” or anything of the sort.

They don’t do this to dudes anywhere near as bad. Imagine if the NBA uniform was crop tops and skin tight briefs or something. That can be comfortable, but in front of an arena and the whole world? Different story.

I’m not saying women are just things to look at, those are your words not mine. Of course women are everything we are.

I just don’t like you people who constantly obsess over desexualizing and infantilizing every aspect of society.

Nobody including like 90% of women have any issue with cute uniforms. Of course it shouldn’t be too revealing because many of these girls are teenagers and stuff.

Sports also aren’t about athletics so much as proving which school have the best people and teachers and administrators. It’s a competition and if people are fat then maybe they don’t belong there. Not that they couldn’t join if they fixed that issue. This is why sports are entertaining and why they bring revenue to schools. It’s also good for teenagers. Both boys and girls to experience a bit of the adult world in a safer and more innocent environment. That’s really the point of childhood besides protection.

Women are absolutely going to have to use these skills and emotions in real life. Men are also going to have to use these skills and emotions in real life. They will not be healthy or normal or survive without a healthy normal mind.

That doesn’t mean you have to be sexual. It’s your body to do what you like with, but you shouldn’t try to desexualized society. That is greedy and selfish.

There are downsides. Not all women are beautiful, and quite a lot of us lose our beauty as we age. I can tell you first hand that aging has resulted in a significant change in how people treat me, and that alone is enough to cause social anxiety

Also, the expectation that we be beautiful or maintain our figures is oppressive as fuck. Think about how hard life is just trying to work and pay bills, then add the time and financial cost for beauty routines and gym. Some people get around that by making those two things their hobbies, but that isn’t gong to work for most people

Most women who play sports are young and also being skinny is healthy. It’s one of the strongest predictors of age. It’s true that not all women would want to wear the uniform but it’s not worth trying to include them because it ruins much of the appeal of it. They aren’t being forced to play and also people aren’t forced to change their style to placate the masses.

I’m not perfectly skinny but I have made big improvements. I eat pretty well and also I keep my weight lower. Often times it’s just habbits people have. There are certain foods you shouldn’t eat because they are not good. Healthy food is also delicious and you don’t have to eat massive amounts. I eat between 1-3 meals a day and I just keep my calories in mind.

Hey good news, I just found out how to block users \o/

Most women enjoy being beautiful, and there is no downside so long as people aren’t taking it to crazy lengths.

When the women you’re looking at are saying “I’m uncomfortable with this”, you’ve taken it too far

It’s not that hard buddy. They’re people, they can talk

Stating the obvious

But that’s exactly what’s happening here. The women in question are saying “I’m uncomfortable”

So now we don’t go “okay, but just make sure you stay fun to look at”

What we do is say “that’s not good, let’s give you agency over the situation so you can show off what you’re comfortable with”

The people who are uncomfortable should find a hobby that suits them better. (No pun intended)
The sport isn’t the problem.

Let me break this down real simple.

Everyone likes boobies. Literally all humans, even gay men and straight women, find them asthetically pleasing

The women bouncing around are complaining about their shirts. They don’t feel pretty, they feel creeped out

Don’t fucking drive them out… Are you insane? Let them pick their own shirts. They’re still going to want to look pretty. Stop making it weird

All you need to do is give them autonomy. That’s it. That would make it positive for everyone involved

there is no downside so long as people aren’t taking it to crazy lengths.

Like forcing them to wear overly tight revealing outfits and perform in front of thousands of people?

It kind of depends. What you said is very vague.
