I used to listen to a lot of podcasts. I found them a good way to quiet the cacophony of voices in my head while I drift off to sleep. Recently though, I’ve found that they’ve become so absolutely deeply enshittifed that I just find them irritating.
They all follow a similar trajectory: they start off being some nerd nerding out about a subject that they’re deeply interested in (that’s the good stage) then they gradually start introducing paid tiers, then come the product-placements, then straight-up ads, then they start featuring other podcasts and before you know it the noise-to-signal ratio becomes untenable.
Audiobooks are my jam now.
