is it normal that i can't see posts from people i follow on other instances or is that a bug?
or setting i gotta toggle somewhere?

everyone outside of this instance also says "follow pending" for some reason, even when i know for a fact they don't need to accept it (tested it with one of my alt accounts)

my other account from another instance can see posts from this account no problem, so it seems to only be an issue with either my account, or rubber.social as a whole

(i am also very new to mastodon in general so maybe mastodon is just Like That/I'm just missing something)

@HypnoSnack it can be, a little bit.

Mastodon works kinda like email. When folks you follow post, their server emails yours with their posts, like an email. Then, your server is able to put it on your feed.

Unfortunately, it's a little tricky to go back and grab old posts. But, it's why reposting old things is a good idea from time to time here.

@gothpanda ahhh. gotcha, gotcha.

we did repost stuff with our other account after following it and can confirm that suddenly it all shows up.

im assuming this basically means i just gotta wait for people to post things after i followed them for their profiles to not be empty?

(the other thing that still feels unexplained is why everyone we follow outside of this instance says "pending" instead of following)

@HypnoSnack kinda, yeah. Your time line will fill up over time. Just gotta give folks a chance to post.

Alternatively, this is also a good chance to do something that I wish BlueSky let you do: follow some hash tags! (You can follow hashtags like you do people, and your server will put those in your time line when it comes across them.)

As for the why it's pending? That's a damn good question. I know that some servers don't support the migration thing, so that could be why? I'd have to look

@gothpanda update! now it only says pending for 2 out of the 15 accounts we followed when yesterday it said it for 12 of them, so must be a server and/or sync issue if i had to guess
@HypnoSnack yeah, should be good now. If those two stick around, they might be using something other than mastodon, that can't automatically follow your move. I'd recommend just shooting them a message to let them know you moved.

@gothpanda oh! i feel like i should clarify, i'm talking about the people i followed, not people following me

last two may also just be folks that manually approve follows, but otherwise it seems to have fixed itself

@HypnoSnack oh, huh. Unless they've got follow requests turned on, that's weird.
