There's a lot Andrew Coster needs to be held to account for, given his role in the McSkimmings affair. But Lara Greaves mentions his resignation from his role as the Secretary for Social Investment and chief executive of the Social Investment Agency;

Coster could have just passed the buck and stayed on the gravy train. As politicians on the right have routinely done over the last couple of decades. So credit where credit is due.

@strypey Well, except that the head of the public service, Brian Roche, said that he would have fired him anyway if he hadn't.

I assume that Coster realised this and took the only option left to him.

I would have sacked Andrew Coster if he hadn't quit, Sir Brian Roche says

The Public Service Commissioner says Coster's role would have been "very, very challenging" if he'd stayed on.

The other option, as I said, would be to deny all responsibility, fight any attempt to sack him as an unjustified dismissal, and use lawfare to extract as much public money as possible before the inevitable golden handshake. This is how similar situations have gone down with dozens of public entity CEOs, ministers, etc.

For me, Coster just taking it on the chin and falling on his sword is a breath of fresh air.
