Many physicians have pledged to uphold the "Declaration of Geneva", an update of the #HippocraticOath dating back to 1948. It includes:

I WILL NOT PERMIT considerations of age, disease or disability, creed, ethnic origin, gender, nationality, political affiliation, race, sexual orientation, social standing or any other factor to intervene between my duty and my patient...

I WILL NOT USE my medical knowledge to violate human rights and civil liberties, even under threat.

With the current US administration proposing to cut off Medicare & Medicaid funding for hospitals that provide gender-affirming care to children, how do we keep our promises?

Part of me wants every hospital to stop treating children, birth to 18 years, except in emergencies. Go on strike, since #GenderAffirmingCareIsHealthcare. If the gov't doesn't want hospitals to provide medical care, we won't. But I don't think we'd get enough hospitals on board.

Plus, withholding care for all might make the current administration happy. Docs stopping treating kids except in emergencies means no vaccines, after all.

Better ideas welcomed.
