For this week’s #ThursdayBooksandBeer I’m reading the 1963 dystopian classic, The Wall, by Austrian writer Marlen Haushofer, republished under the ‘Vintage Earth’ imprint. It’s accompanied by an ‘In the Pines’ Hazy IPA from Margaret River Beer Co. The name is an appropriate connection to the setting of the novel and its environmental focus as well as (I imagine) a nod to the album by WA music legends The Triffids. Griffin is drinking the same beer and reading Thomas Pynchon’s epic Gravity’s Rainbow. “I couldn’t see what he was so frightened of. At this point the road emerged from the gorge, and as far as I could see it lay deserted and peaceful in the morning sun.” #reading #literature #dystopia #environment #craftbeer #thetriffids #inthepines
