To mark the occasion, I reread all of her (7) books (+ 2 unfinished) over the past 6 months or so (after 30 years and watching many film adaptations). It was great fun, and she is still incredbily readable, especially for a 19th c. author
What stood out is how bitchy she could be, and, despite the feminist label often attached to her, how harsh and critical she could be with her female characters. My favs are Northanger Abbey, and The Waltons. I least enjoyed Emma.: most characters are idiots (incl. the heroine)
