@Tutanota
Great to post this here πŸ‘πŸ»

Here in NL, news: Meta has
-no debate possible -
removed accounts from queers, queer connections, pro-abortion accounts from FB/IG??

A journalist managed to get back on FB but worries about people that don't have her possibilities
Yesterday in tv-program Nieuwsuur (national broadcast)

Is this the official account for tutamail?

@Tutanota brilliant! πŸ‘πŸ»
@Tutanota more of this on the Tube, I hate having adverts in my eyeline, fuck it up!

@Lazarou @Tutanota

The advertising cards are a standard print-size, so it's simple to make and print your own. :D

@Lazarou @Tutanota

I forgot to add, the newer models of printer includes printer control codes, that can be used to trace which specific printer was used to make them.

Be aware of this and choose your printing places properly. :D

Question: Which way do the toggles go?!

@Epic_Null the confusion is the point. This is a dark pattern. Do better, @Tutanota.
@fluidlogic @Tutanota I have literally not read the article because I cannot figure out the toggles.

@Epic_Null ah, I see the grey text under the text label indicates the current state of the toggle.

This kind of interface is mean and hurtful. I'm wearied to the depths of my soul by the people who specify this kind of hostile user interface.

@fluidlogic But am I opting out of the collection or opting out of the opt out?

@Epic_Null ah, you've been gaslit into overthinking it, I think. Toggling off the switch is opting out of data collection.

Your confusion indicates you're unable to give your informed consent, so @Tutanota is in breach of the GDPR and you should contact your national data protection office. I don't know where you're located, but in Ireland it's the Data Protection Commission: https://dataprotection.ie/en

@fluidlogic @Tutanota Soooo bad news for your suggestion - GDPR does not legally cover me.

I am sadly Americain.

@Epic_Null @Tutanota my condolences in these terrible times.
@Tutanota, cool ads, but how legal are such things?

@greenexlibris @Tutanota The act of removing existing adverts and replacing it with your own parody isn't technically illegal. Obviously the companies try anyway and some people have been fined for property damage but that's about it AFAIK.

Regarding the content of the parodies themselves, parody has certain protections in UK law but the direct imitation of Brandalism could fall foul of copyright and libel laws. But IANAL so πŸ§‚πŸ§‚πŸ§‚

@greenexlibris best to follow #Banksy's advice:

People are taking the piss out of you everyday. They butt into your life, take a cheap shot at you and then disappear. They leer at you from tall buildings and make you feel small. They make flippant comments from buses that imply you're not sexy enough and that all the fun is happening somewhere else. [...] They have access to the most sophisticated technology the world has ever seen and they bully you with it. They are The Advertisers and they are laughing at you. You, however, are forbidden to touch them. Trademarks, intellectual property rights and copyright law mean advertisers can say what they like wherever they like with total impunity. Fuck that. Any advert in a public space that gives you no choice whether you see it or not is yours. It's yours to take, re-arrange and re-use. You can do whatever you like with it. Asking for permission is like asking to keep a rock someone just threw at your head. You owe the companies nothing. Less than nothing, you especially don't owe them any courtesy. They owe you. They have re-arranged the world to put themselves in front of you. They never asked for your permission, don't even start asking for theirs.

@fluidlogic great quote! but my question was more about how safe is it to do such anti-marketing. and how legal is it to promote that? legality here is not about being right tho

@greenexlibris what do you think?

(Sorry, I'm not going to interact further, because your profile is a cipher.)

@Tutanota It's amazing how Microsoft seems to avoid feedback like this. Somebody do Microsoft. LOL
@Tutanota Worth noting that the artists aren't anonymous, the people putting the posters up are. https://brandalism.ch/make-amazon-pay-activists-re-purpose-billboard-advertising-black-friday-2025/

I remember Adbusters from the 90’s. Similar effort. The good old days.
